Top Safety Accreditation for SCX Special Projects

15th November 2012

SCX Special Projects Ltd has been awarded accreditation from SafeContractor for its commitment to achieving excellence in health and safety.

SafeContractor is a leading third party accreditation scheme which recognises very high standards in health and safety management amongst UK contractors. SCX’s Special Projects department had previously held the accreditation for a number of years, when it was still part of Street CraneXpress Ltd, but in 2011 the department had grown so big that it became a limited company in its own right and so was required to undertake the thorough vetting process again from the beginning.

The auditing process examines health and safety procedures and a company’s track record for safe practice. SCX Special Projects has been able to demonstrate once again its compliance with current health and safety legislation for all its procedures and processes, including such practices as working at height, use of powered machinery, manual handling and COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).

Graham Simpson, the SCX Group’s Business Management Systems Manager said: “Ensuring the health, safety and well-being of our staff, our own subcontractors, and of course our customers is a huge priority for SCX Special Projects. The fact that we have been re-assessed and accredited demonstrates not only our track record, but that upholding exacting health and safety processes is an on-going commitment geared towards the long-term future of all our Group companies and their clients.”

Under the SafeContractor scheme, those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users via a website. Client-organisations who sign up to the scheme can access the database, enabling them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site. These clients agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only those who have received accreditation.

John Kinge, Technical Director of SafeContractor said, "Major organisations simply cannot afford to run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies in place."

"More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that SCX Special Projects has done. The firm’s high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector.”

Over one hundred and seventy major nation-wide businesses, from several key sectors, have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for services such as building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.
