Sheffield based SCX Special Projects is a highly profitable business which started life over 30 years ago. It designs, builds, commissions and maintains bespoke engineering solutions to complex lifting and moving challenges for structures, materials and people for its customers in the nuclear energy, defence, aviation and kinetic architecture sectors.

Its highly-talented team of 60 has a global reputation having delivered numerous iconic projects in nuclear energy at Sellafield and Dounreay, retractable roofs for Wimbledon’s Centre Court and No.1 Court, the world’s first dividing and retractable pitch at Tottenham Hotspur FC, on-board systems for the HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carriers, advanced production line handling and test systems for Rolls Royce engines and F-35 Lightning jets, and many others.

With the backing of its investors Elysian Capital the business is implementing a strategy which will see significant domestic and international growth.

As a part of this growth plan SCX Special Projects is currently looking for ten new members of its engineering, operations and HR teams. The teams will continue to grow over the next few years.


Job Summary

The Technical Support and Maintenance Manager will take responsibility for the service, repair, maintenance and aftermarket teams. The role will focus on delivering a first-class customer experience with regards to any post-installation issues, work or services.


About You 


  • Qualified to HNC Level or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Automation or similar

  • Significant experience of managing teams in service, repair and maintenance of electro-mechanical products and systems. A natural leader and motivator who is prepared to roll their sleeves up and lead from the front

  • Organised; able to plan ahead and provide foresight of working to the team but still able to react to unforeseen issues

  • Experienced in a wide range of engineering disciplines; mechanical, electrical, control systems, automation

  • Excellent customer communication skills, able to understand issues and diagnose their causes

  • Good commercial awareness, ideally with experience of providing costs / quotations / estimates for service and repair. This is currently based on a time and materials basis

  • A full UK driving licence is essential for this position as travelling to customer sites may be required

  • Up to date knowledge of current Health and Safety Legislation including CDM Regulations

  • Willing to undergo security clearance to a minimum of SC




  • Knowledge and experience of materials handling equipment, cranes, lifting equipment or similar

  • NEBOSH accredited with experience of CDM regulations

  • IOSH certified. Knowledge of 18th Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations

  • Knowledge of 18th Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations

  • Knowledge of HMI panels, PLC controls systems, Variable Speed Drives and their integration into complex lifting and materials handling systems.
