New Test Facility to Meet Increased Demand

23rd August 2011

SCX Special Projects Ltd has grown rapidly over the last few years and in order to meet client demand the company has this month completed the acquisition of further assembly and test facilities in north-east Sheffield.

SCX Special Projects has seen a huge increase recently in orders for handling equipment to help decommission various nuclear power plants. It is these projects which have created this requirement for the additional manufacturing and testing capacity. To meet this need, the entire building on Barrow Road has now been secured by SCX Special Projects, doubling the space originally acquired by the company in April this year.

The sheer size of the new premises on Barrow Road, as well as the convenient location near to the company’s head office and primary fabrication works, makes it an ideal site for a new assembly and test facility.

Set on a 1.8 acre site, the 81,800 sq ft building is fairly unusual in that it offers a full 8m height to hook on the building’s internal overhead bridge cranes.

This enables some of the more unique handling solutions created by SCX Special Projects, including vertical telescopic masts used in nuclear decommissioning, to be properly tested and certified before they are installed in sites across the UK. Further down the line, the site may also be used to house specialist testing equipment such as wet bays (large water tanks) required to prototype some of the more unique handling solutions currently being designed.

This expansion indicates promising times for SCX Special Projects, with the increased capacity enabling the company to take on further future work from both satisfied and new customers alike, as the group builds on its continuing success.
