SCX Engineers Another Success With Innovation Award

05th November 2018

Sheffield specialist engineering group SCX has further lifted its tally of awards in recognition of its expertise in mechanical handling systems.

SCX Special Projects took the prize for innovation at the Insider's Growth 100 Awards 2018, which judged business across the Yorkshire region.

SCX has built a reputation for engineering excellence thanks to projects such as the design, manufacture and installation of retractable roofs for Wimbledon’s Centre Court and No 1 Court and the world-first retractable pitch at Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium.

Other clients include the MoD, BAE Systems, Rolls Royce and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

Over the last 12 months, the SCX group, which is based in Wincobank, has won five business awards – one national, one regional and three local.

And later this month (November) its Street CraneXpress division, the national crane service provider, is on shortlists for two awards highlighting companies around the world that have done the most to raise standards in the lifting industry.

After the latest success, SCX managing director Simon Eastwood said:

“The awards keep coming! It is so gratifying that the expertise, experience and commitment of our workforce across all sectors of the company continues to be recognised.

“And the fact that our engineering achievements are being held up as leading examples of innovation is particularly rewarding, especially given the increasingly digital world in which we live and work.”

Businesses from across the region were honoured for their sustained and rapid growth at the Insider Awards at the Met Hotel in Leeds.

For SCX, the award comes ahead of the first games on its pioneering retractable grass pitch for Tottenham Hotspur, and next summer’s use for the first time of the retractable roof at the No 1 Court at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, which coincides with the tenth anniversary of the concertina-style roof SCX built over Centre Court.

The SCX group’s expertise, across its three businesses, is being harnessed in sectors as diverse as advanced manufacturing, materials technology, the creative and digital industries, food, and biomedical / healthcare technology.

Last year was hugely successful for the 45-year-old family-run company with major growth, groundbreaking projects, a full order book and the opening of its own training academy, also in Wincobank.
