SCX shortlisted for two Sheffield Business Awards

27th November 2017

SCX has been shortlisted in two categories in the 2017 Sheffield Business Awards, for 'Innovation' and 'Large Business of the Year'.

SCX was founded in 1972 in Sheffield and has a long and proud history in the city. Today, SCX is headquartered from Roman Ridge Road in Wincobank, a site it has operated from since 1978.

The company remains committed to Sheffield, playing its part through creating jobs, generating new business for suppliers, encouraging new talent, supporting local causes and, in recent years, expanding into new premises.

The SCX group consists of three complementary businesses: Street CraneXpress; SCX Special Projects; and Burnand XH.

Each business is successful in its own right, however the real magic happens when they join forces to collaborate on landmark projects such as the iconic retractable roofs for the All England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon, or the world-first dividing retractable pitch for Tottenham Hotspur's new London stadium.

SCX has also launched the SCX Academy, an initiative that gives local young people the chance to become a fully qualified engineer. In conjunction with Sheffield's AMRC, the apprentices at the SCX Academy gain a fantastic education in engineering. The SCX Academy scheme combines the engineering theory and practical skills taught by AMRC with specialised on-the-job training in SCX, to home-grow the next generation of Sheffield engineers.

And the SCX group just had its most successful year ever, with record revenues, a RoSPA Gold Award for safety, and being awarded the Made In Sheffield mark. It's no doubt for these reasons that SCX has caught the eye of the judging panel at the Sheffield Business Awards.

SCX will be at the Sheffield Business Awards ceremony at Ponds Forge on Thursday 7 December along with all the other shortlisted businesses. Whether we win our categories or not, we will celebrate the very best of business in Sheffield.

Good luck to all the shortlisted entrants, we all can be very proud of the city in which we live and work.
