Job Summary

Responsible for managing and expediting procurement across both mechanical and electrical disciplines to ensure all parts and materials are sourced effectively, within budget and timescale, to agreed level of quality.

To maintain existing supplier relationships and develop the existing supplier base to meet project/business needs.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Manufacturing Department by carrying out procurement related activities for both mechanical and electrical parts, working with both the mechanical and electrical design teams

  • Review each project to gain an understanding of the critical factors to that projects’ success ensuring procurement is carried out in a proactive manner to ensure such critical success factors are achieved on a project by project basis

  • Continual review of current purchasing methodology taking a holistic approach to the procurement function (identifying shortfalls, opportunities, regulation compliance and risks) serving the needs of the business as a whole as well on a job by job basis to ensure the culture is one of continual improvement

  • Liaise with the Manufacturing and Engineering teams regarding technical details to resolve any issues that may arise. Taking a proactive questioning approach so that issues are identified by your checking of information and details and application of experience and knowledge and management of the issue until resolution to an acceptable basis

  • The Procurement Buyer is to develop the supply chain, increasing number of organisations of sufficient quality, commerciality and standing for SCX to be able to trade with

  • Responsible for ensuring an efficient purchasing process, taking into consideration company and country specific guidelines, as well as delivery time and budget

  • Be the main interface for suppliers, purchasing and other internal departments, maintaining positive relationships with the supply chain

  • Negotiate pricing with suppliers including consideration of technical, commercial, and qualitative requirements.

  • Evaluation and control of suppliers, including delivery time, price development, quality and develop a process to assist in improving our procurement chain

  • Coordinate supplier visits and lead supplier meetings autonomously

  • Attend internal project handover meetings and client ‘kick-off’ meetings with Project Managers when required

  • Communicate manufacturing or assembly problems to the Manufacturing Manager via the SCX Company Quality Procedure, maintaining input into SHEQ department as required

  • Control supplier variations and changes, reporting issues to the Project Manager to ensure liability is managed to acceptable level for SCX

  • Adhere to Health & Safety and Quality Control objectives

  • Take a proactive involvement in all meetings attended to ensure objectives are met

  • Comply with SCX order approval regime, advising on improvements that may be necessary

 

Key Skills & Experience

 

Essential

  • Good knowledge of mechanical engineering principles; drawings, technical information, regulatory requirements, British and international standards, building regulations, engineering standards and health and safety requirements

  • Experience in procuring engineering materials and technically demanding equipment within both mechanical and electrical disciplines, specifically COTs (commercial off the shelf) items

  • Demonstrable experience in pro actively aligning procurement needs with timing plans/programmes and managing supply chain to meet such plans

  • Experience in pro-actively managing supply chain problems to an acceptable solution maintaining budget, quality, and timing objectives

  • Experience in meeting procurement aims

  • Fluent with Microsoft based software packages.

Desirable

  • Technical understanding of electrical engineering principles, specifically control system instrumentation and electrical panel building

  • Familiar with AutoCAD, ideally with both mechanical and electrical platforms

  • Experience with manufacturing of OHETCs (overhead electrical travelling cranes).
