Yorkshire Business Masters Shortlist SCX

23rd January 2019

Sheffield specialist engineering group SCX has started the new year in familiar fashion – in the running for two awards.

The company – renowned for its pioneering projects to install sliding roofs at the All England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon and the retractable grass pitch at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – has been shortlisted twice in the Yorkshire Business Masters 2019.

SCX will compete for Medium Business of the Year, the category it won in 2018, and it is also shortlisted for the new category of Family Business of the Year. The winners will be announced at an award-giving ceremony in Leeds on March 28.

Backed by TheBusinessDesk.com, the ninth annual awards highlight the achievements of firms of all sizes across the region.

The SCX group’s latest recognition follows a very successful 2018 which saw it win five business awards – one national, one regional and three local.

The 46-year-old family-run company, based in Wincobank, encompasses the businesses of SCX Special Projects, Street CraneXpress and electrical control and automation wholesalers Burnand XH.

SCX Special Projects, the group’s bespoke engineering division, is currently completing trials of a retractable roof for No.1 Court at Wimbledon following the successful installation of the Centre Court roof almost ten years ago.

Meanwhile, its retractable grass pitch at the new Spurs stadium allow the Premier League surface to be rolled away so that other events, including American NFL football, can be played on an artificial surface below.
