They Shoot, They Score – SCX Sponsors Bluebell Wood’s First Football Tournament

05th June 2019

Back of the net! Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice scored with its first ever fundraising football tournament, supported by SCX.

The charity tournament took place at Rotherham United’s New York Stadium on Friday 10th May 2019 with plenty of support from local people and businesses.

Team places sold out within 24 hours, as four local companies snapped up the chance to showcase their employees’ football skills– and raised over £4,500 for the hospice in the process.

The event was so popular that it looks set to become a fixture on the hospice’s annual fundraising calendar – only bigger and better.

Darren Falkingham, group marketing manager at SCX, said, “We’re so proud to sponsor the shirts for Bluebell Wood’s first charity football tournament. The hospice’s work with children and their families never ceases to inspire us.

“The SCX-branded shirts made us look the part, even if our skills weren’t quite up to the same standard! Most importantly, we all had a great time and raised money for a very worthy cause.”

David Hall, Bluebell Wood’s corporate fundraiser, added, “The event was absolutely fantastic. Money raised will help to make a big difference to families facing the toughest of times across the region.

“We would like to thank SCX along with all the corporate supporters who took part, particularly Hodge Clemco, who made the whole thing possible. As an official Rotherham United sponsor, they are able to use the pitch once a year and chose to donate that opportunity to us.”

Andy Blyth, from winning team Omexon, commented: “It was a great event. Playing on a pitch usually reserved for professional football was a great honour. We were delighted to win and will return to defend our title.”

We would also like to extend a thank you to the hospice volunteers who manned the event, programme sponsors Omexom, plus Newfox IT and M.S. Sport who provided the trophy and winners’ medals.
