SCX Special Projects Verified by Achilles

16th April 2013

SCX Special Projects have been awarded full Achilles accreditation as a verified supplier on the Achilles UVDB (Utility Vender Database).

AchillesAchilles identifies, qualifies, evaluates and monitors suppliers’ capabilities and assesses their financial, legal, health and safety, environmental and quality risks. Achilles provides its 800 Buyer members with accurate information, business efficiencies, cost savings and risk reductions by effectively outsourcing the supplier sourcing, evaluation and monitoring elements of the procurement process.

One of those Buyer members is EDF Energy, who requested that SCX Special Projects register with Achilles in order to become an approved supplier. EDF uses Achilles as their procurement audit process and will only do business with suppliers who are part of the Achilles UVDB community. This independent verification means that EDF can trust that its suppliers have been vetted appropriately, plus it saves them time and therefore money in the procurement process.

The Achilles audit assessed SCX Special Projects’ Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental policies and procedures, both in terms of the company’s Business Management System and its practices on site, and then benchmarked this against the industry average. SCX Special Projects rated very respectably on the audit, including a score of 98.4% for Health & Safety on site, and the company is now registered under UVDB Verify Category B2 (a contractor or supplier who works on operational sites owned by the utilities and who employs more than 20 staff or sub-contractors).

Dave Kilner, the SCX Group’s Assurance Manager, said: “We continually strive to improve our H&S, Quality and Environmental procedures and policies and to have these independently verified by another high profile accreditation scheme is testament to the hard work and diligence shown by all at SCX in delivering these high standards.

“EDF Energy, along with many other large corporations, uses Achilles for their supplier vetting procedures and we were happy to comply with their request to be assessed, demonstrating our proactive commitment to meeting client requirements.”

SCX Special Projects already have one project underway for EDF as result of the Achilles accreditation; a contract to upgrade the primary control and safety protection system of a 152 tonne Fuel Handling Crane at Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station in Suffolk. Hopefully this will signal the beginning of a long and mutually beneficial relationship with the energy provider.
