Eriez Magnetics - Swing Jib & Refurb
Street CraneXpress have helped Eriez Magnetics in Wales to improve the efficiency of their facilities. The global magnetic systems experts initially required some more appropriate equipment for the unloading of heavy machinery, and so SCX provided a solution in the shape of two swing jibs. The first jib was required for the unloading of a 30Tonne, 8m radius boring machine. The second facilitates the unloading of a new electromagnetic charging machine used for the construction of heavy industrial magnets. Both jibs were 3m high, with a radius of 4m, and a SWL of 1Tonne each. Previous to the jib cranes, Eriez were using the overhead cranes to undertake this work, which was not ideal. The introduction of these jib cranes has meant that they now have dedicated equipment specifically intended for this work. It also now means that the overhead cranes are freed up to be used for other works. Further to these jib installations, Street CraneXpress were called back by Eriez to undertake some refurbishment work on one of their cranes. Street CraneXpress removed the existing worn-out 10Tonne crab unit, and upgraded the crane by installing a new 12Tonne Street Crane hoist unit. In addition to the new crab unit, SCX also removed the worn-out cross travel rails and replaced them with new rails, as well as replacing all new electrics, including the panels and controls. Finally, the crane was converted to inverter controls along the long travel motions, to offer variable speeds. In keeping with the client’s requirements, all the refurbishment work and the jib crane installations were undertaken over a weekend so as not to disrupt production.
