Pembridge House

Award Nomination

Each year the Architects Journal holds the AJ Small Projects Awards, which celebrate the years greatest, but often overlooked, low-cost projects (less than £250,000).

Street CraneXpress’s curved retractable canopy for Pembridge House is part of a project which has been shortlisted for this year’s awards.

The overall project reorders a mews house in West London's Notting Hill to create a new integrated living/dining/kitchen space on the upper floor. The design also incorporates a handsome solid oak staircase which leads up to the new kitchen, yet it is the glass canopy that has lauded the majority of the applause for this project.

The concept for the curved canopy was designed by Westarchitecture and Webb Yates Engineers, but they required SCX and their technical expertise in order to turn the concept into reality and to create the means by which the canopy can be moved. Street CraneXpress were chosen by the architect due to their involvement with the new retractable roof for Wimbledon’s Centre Court.

All of the shortlisted projects will all be exhibited in London, in March, where the winner will be announced. Watch this space to see how the Pembridge House project fared against the competition.
