Razor Sharp
Integral Cradles have been awarded the responsibility of providing façade access equipment for yet another of London’s newest skyscrapers. Castle House is being built by Multiplex Ltd, and the eco-friendly building is planned for completion in 2009. A mixed use development, the building will be situated right in the heart of the redevelopment scheme for the London borough of Southwark. Totaling 147m high, the 43 floors will be mainly residential use, creating 310 new homes, but with a retail area incorporated into the complex as well. The development has been designed with current concerns over our environment and renewable sources of energy as a major feature. The design embraces energy efficiency and encourages the use of natural energy sources, maximizing the use of natural daylight and ventilation. Situated at the top of the building are three wind turbines and a combined heat and power plant. These turbines will produce enough energy to light the entire building. The aerodynamic shape of the building helps to increase the efficiency of these turbines, and has also earned the design the nickname of the “electric razor”. Integral Cradles are to provide the cleaning and maintenance access equipment to keep the outer façade of the electric razor looking sharp. The design works have for this project have now been started, with the whole project due to be completed in 2009.
