Charity Auction

The #Nasser94 Charity Auction of products and services from Sheffield businesses and individuals raised over £500 for The Alzheimer's Society.

It was great to see people engaging with the auction, discussing the products on offer, and even getting slightly competitive and tactical with their bidding! All in good spirit and for a very worthy cause.

Thank you everyone for getting involved,

SCX's Adam Newell is set to raise money for a leading dementia charity in loving memory of his grandfather.

SCX's Adam Newell is organising 94 fundraising events in aid of The Alzheimer's Society

The charity is close to Adam’s heart as his grandfather, Nasser Misri, originally from Yemen, passed away recently at the age of 94-years-old, having suffered from dementia.

Triathlons, marathons, swimming, auctions and bake sales are among the wide array of events Adam is helping to organise with his family and at his place of work his business.

Adam, Project Engineer at SCX, said: “My grandfather was a family man – everything he did was for us – so I was really inspired by him and wanted to do something in his memory.

“Over the next couple of years, we’ll be raising money through 94 different events – one for each year of my grandfather’s life. The majority of the events will be physical challenges, with the biggest for me being the Ironman Man challenge race next year.

“Anyone wanting to get involved can take part in the Swim10 Challenge by recording their swim distance in ten minutes, then sharing how far they’ve swam on social media or via the justgiving page with a donation.

“I’m currently training in excess of ten hours a week, which includes swimming twice a week, running four times a week, cycling six times a week and going to the gym to maintain strength and flexibility. I manage to fit all of the training around my busy schedule, going for runs with my wife at 5am and then cycling to work.

“I’d also like to thank SCX for their support in my fundraising efforts – every event we complete brings us one step closer to our goal of raising £5,000 – and for being so accommodating of my training.”

So far, Adam has completed the Wilmslow Sprint Triathlon, Fairholmes Duathlon and the Rother Valley Triathlon where he came 31st out of 113 competitors. His next big event will be the Llandudno Half Ironman Man Sea Triathlon at the end of June.

SCX Group Managing Director, Simon Eastwood, said: “Adam’s story is very inspiring and we’re proud to be able to support him throughout his challenge.

“The Alzheimer’s Society is a brilliant charity, raising awareness and funds to help those diagnosed with dementia to carry on living their lives as best as they can.

“We are encouraging all of our staff to get involved, be it swimming, running, cycling, or baking cakes. Any contribution they can make will help with Adam’s campaign, and we wish him the best of luck with in his upcoming physical challenges.”
