Job Summary

Responsible for the strategic development and maintenance of the safety, health, environment, and quality assurance functions for the SCX Group, the SHEQ Manager will ensure that the products and services of the company meet the highest quality standards and exceed legal requirements.


Main duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive and improve Health & Safety standards across the company meeting OHSAS18001 standards where required
  • Improve environmental / sustainability standards and where required meet ISO 14001 standards
  • Maintain and improve quality management systems meeting ISO 9001:2015 standard
  • Produce and deliver strategic plans for SHEQ performance taking into account corporate and customer requirements
  • Develop, implement and review SHEQ policies and procedures
  • Develop SHEQ Communication Strategies for all levels of staff, to include written information, tool box talks and management briefs keeping all staff up to date with health, safety, quality and environmental matters
  • Actively promote the SHEQ strategy to drive a tangible improvement in safety performance and culture
  • Provide a professional service, ensuring that Good Practice in SHEQ is adopted and regularly reviewed. This will include day to day management; accident reduction strategies; and management SHEQ training requirements
  • Carry out statistical analysis and trending to identify issues of concern; assist in the creation, modification and delivery of relevant action plans and provide support for all SHEQ and functional processes
  • Lead investigations into incidents (including major incidents), accidents, near misses and non-conformance ensuring that all documentation is completed, and systems are updated. Provide advice on root causation, best preventative measures and share lessons learned
  • Keep abreast of corporate, regulatory and legislative changes and advise management of the implications for the business
  • Deliver safety training as required
  • Take ultimate responsibility for Health and Safety and Quality Assurance audits
  • Provide support to the HR Department with inductions, SHEQ related training and employee wellbeing issues including occupational health and industrial disease
  • Assist in retaining all current quality accreditations, and work towards the attainment of new ones
  • Facilitate all forms of risk assessment and act as a final authority where a specialist response is required in relation to risk assessments performed by others on site
  • Assist with tender/submission documentation
  • Managerial responsibility for Goods Inward Inspector, Manufacturing Inspector, HSE Coordinator and Quality Engineer including appraisal, performance management and disciplinary where required.

 

Qualifications

Essential

  • NEBOSH National and General Certification
  • Full clean UK driving licence

Desirable

  • NEBOSH Fire Prevention and Risk Management Certificate
  • Environmental Management Systems Qualification
  • CMIOSH
  • Lead Auditor ISO9001

 

Experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a SHEQ Management role within a similar heavy engineering industry
  • Experience of Method Statements, Site inspections and investigations, auditing, compliance and maintenance of SHEQ standards, Risk Assessment, CDM Regulations
  • An in-depth understanding of and the ability to interpret SHEQ-related legislation.
  • Involvement in tender and submission processes
  • Good working knowledge of BSI ISO 9001, BSI ISO 14001 and BSI OHSAS 18001 standards.
