Job Summary

Responsible for the procurement of technical parts and materials ensuring that they are sourced effectively, within budget and timescale, to agreed level of quality.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review drawings with an emphasis on manufacturability resource.
  • Take ownership of the procurement of technical parts and equipment.
  • Oversee internal manufacturing.
  • Liaise with Project Management and Engineering teams regarding technical details to resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Create bid comparisons, procurement plans and cost estimates.
  • Be the main interface for suppliers, purchasing and other internal departments.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with the supply chain.
  • Negotiate with suppliers including consideration of technical, commercial and qualitative requirements.
  • Evaluation of suppliers, including delivery time, price development, quality and develop a process to assist in improving our procurement chain.
  • Coordinate supplier visits and lead supplier meetings autonomously.
  • Attend internal project handover meetings and client ‘kick-off’ meetings with Project Managers when required.
  • Communicate manufacturing or assembly problems to Head Office via the SCX Company Quality Procedure, maintaining input into SHEQ department as required.
  • Control supplier variations and changes, reporting issues to the Project Manager to ensure liability is managed to acceptable level for SCX.
  • Liaise and coordinate with all Stakeholders in connection with planning the delivery of projects.
  • Expedite orders and arrange deliveries to correct location
  • Assist workshop manager in managing internal fabrication resource to meet project requirements
  • Adhere to Health & Safety and Quality Control objectives
  • Comply with SCX order approval regime, advising on improvements that may be necessary

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required

Essential

  • Experience of working within a manufacturing environment, particularly fabrication and machining.
  • Experience in complying with budgetary, compliance, regulation and Health and Safety requirement.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings.
  • An understanding of regulatory requirements, British and international standards and Health and safety requirements in a manufacturing environment.
  • Able to effectively communicate, influence and negotiate with external clients/suppliers.

Desirable

  • HNC/HND/Degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Familiar with CAD/SolidWorks.
