Moving Structures

The requirement for mobile sections for buildings is becoming more prevalent today as architecture becomes more adventurous and expectations of what technology can achieve become higher. Street CraneXpress’s expertise in the mechanical handling arena has enabled many elaborate structural projects covering a variety of unusual applications.

Our multi-disciplined team is able to offer the full package of bespoke engineering solutions from concept proposals to design, manufacture and installation. Through advanced technology it is even possible to produce systems capable of driving themselves and so eliminating the need for human input.

Wimbledon Centre Court

Wimbledon

Street CraneXpress are currently engineering the control technology and mechanical systems, as well as weatherproofing and drainage equipment, for the 5,200 square metre retractable roof over Wimbledon's Centre Court, designed by structural design consultants, Bianchi Morley. The roof will be a concertina so that it can be folded into the ends of the building, and translucent to give the court an open feel when closed.

Ascot Racecourse

Ascot

Street CraneXpress helped to develop a unique retractable turf crossing to seamlessly cover the access roads across the track. The track is hydraulically powered to lift up and slide out to uncover the road, then precisely fits back into position, minimising the risk of injury to the racehorses.

National Centre for Popular Music

NCPM

Street CraneXpress designed, manufactured and installed the rotating roof cowls at the National Centre for Popular Music in Sheffield. The 10 tonne weight roof sections can be smoothly, silently and precisely rotated, independently and in any direction, so that the funnels channel wind down into the building to create an energy efficient system of air ventilation.

Camden Market

Camden Market

SCX installed their design for the moving roof over the new Gilgamesh restuarant at the world’s most visited market. The roof panels can either be synchronised to smoothly and silently raise all 5 panels at once, or if required, each panel separately. The design allows natural light and ventilation into the seated area, giving a suitably bohemian feel to the restaurant.

Millenium Wheel

Millenium Wheel

Street CraneXpress designed and installed the conductor and control systems to operate and supply power to the London Eye Millennium Wheel and its 32 independently rotating capsules.

Street CraneXpress Ltd can help with feasibility studies for handling schemes including the analysis of the cost, benefits and relationship of proposed projects.
