Defence Handling Systems

The requirement for precision is fundamental to the handling of munitions and delicate aeroplane parts.

Because accuracy, efficiency and reliability are paramount in all SCX work, our rigourous standards mean we are able to provide specialist handling systems for the defence industry, including documentation, as well as various other aviation applications:

Crane inside the well-dock

HMS Albion & HMS Bulwark

Street CraneXpress Ltd supplied the lifting equipment as part of a “capability enhancement project” for two of the Royal Navy’s aircraft carriers, HMS Bulwark and HMS Albion. The cranes handle weapons, explosives and ammunition to and from landing craft/hovercraft entering the vessels' well-docks.

Ark Royal Crane System

Bespoke Aircraft Carrier Crane System

HMS Ark Royal, Invincible and Illustrious have all had a purpose built crane system installed comprising of four overhead travelling cranes fixed to the underside of the main deck. The system enables Royal Navy engineers to carry out maintenance on Harrier jets.

MOD Hospital Ship Lift

Hospital Ship Lift

SCX designed, manufactured, installed and commissioned a complete rack & pinion lift system for RFA Argus, a MoD Hospital Ship. Working to the dimensions of an existing lift shaft, the system had to accommodate a hospital bed and travel smoothly between three decks.

British Aerospace Turning Rig

British Aerospace Turning Rig

SCX designed and installed an automated handling tool manipulator resembling an inverted forklift. The equipment was required to handle blow-moulded titanium foreplanes, which are mounted before the main wing on the new Eurofighter.
