Meet the Board

 

SIMON EASTWOOD - Managing Director

Simon Eastwood To gain experience before joining the family firm, Simon completed a technician's course at the Engineering Industry Training Board. This gave Simon a foundation on which to grow his experience by joining Street CraneXpress in 1980 and working in each department including the shop floor, sales and accounts before working full time in internal sales and admin at both Street Crane Company and SCX. Within a year of gaining the qualification of Member of the Institute of Administrative Managers in 1984, Simon was placed in charge of the Crane and Hoist division where his brief was to integrate it into the core business and thereafter to grow the business. In 1987 Simon took over the running of SCX in its entirety upon the retirement of the director in charge and has cultivated SCX to provide a unique combination of mechanical handling services, products and solutions. In 1995 Simon commenced a MBA at the University of Sheffield and graduated in 1997. His hobbies include running, scuba diving and skiing.

 

SOPHIE STEAD - Finance Director

Sophie Stead After gaining a BA in Business and Finance, Sophie’s first job was as Trainee Management Accountant at Forgemasters Special Melted Products in Sheffield where she worked for three years. She then joined Morrison Construction’s International Division in Matlock as Assistant Accountant working directly for the Finance Director. It was whilst at Morrison Construction that Sophie completed her CIMA Accountancy Exams.


Sophie joined The SCX Group in 2001 as Group Accountant; a role which has expanded considerably as the group has grown. In 2005, she became a Fully Chartered Management Accountant and now holds overall responsibility for all statutory financial requirements and all internal management information for all the group companies.

 

ANDY WHITWORTH - SCX Special Projects Director

Andy Whitworth

Andy joined the Street CraneXpress group in 1991 to concentrate on developing specialist materials handling projects, utilising the extensive manufacturing and service resources from across the group.

Prior to his appointment, Andy served 14 years with a leading manufacturer of overhead travelling cranes, but was heavily involved in the special projects sector. His area of expertise varies tremendously from theatre to nuclear and aerospace to stadia. Overall Andy has served more than 30 years in the industry with the majority being involved in major handling schemes. His overall responsibility is for the sales and design teams, ensuring successful implementation of a project from the original concept through to the handover.

 

RAY FLETCHER - Street CraneXpress Director

Ray Fletcher

Prior to joining Street CraneXpress Ray completed a mechanical apprenticeship with a Sheffield based engineering company. Ray then progressed into a sales-related role, working for a construction and engineering plant hire company, covering the north of the UK from a sales perspective.

Ray joined Street CraneXpress in 1991 to work for the Crane and Hoist division as area sales representative, predominently covering the North of England. This was mainly the sale of spares and smaller components, which later progressed to working with the service department. This role incorporated the sale of crane refurbishments, crane upgrades/modernisation and larger projects covering the whole of the UK.

In 2003 Ray was appointed sales manager for standard projects and was responsible for managing all Regional Sales Engineers. Ray was appointed director (designate) for Street CraneXpress in 2008 and became a full Director in 2009.

 

MICK SOUTH - Burnand XH Director

Mick South

Mick joined Burnand Components Ltd in 1985, prior to the company becoming part of the SCX Group. As van driver, Mick would make deliveries to Street CraneXpress and it was the strong relationship he forged here that planted the seeds for the purchase of Burnands in 1987.

Shortly after this, Mick moved into internal sales for Sheffield and then Hull, and then became manager of the Scunthorpe branch when that opened five years later. Mick progressed on to become general area manager for both Hull and Scunthorpe and later Featherstone when that was created in early 2008.

Mick’s many years of experience with Burnand XH led to him being appointed Director (designate) for Burnand XH in October 2011, taking over the overall running of the company from MD Simon Eastwood.

 

NIGEL MONTGOMERY - EC&I Director

Nigel Montgomery

 

Nigel began his career covering control system maintenance for the steelworks of Rotherham and Sheffield. He later served 19 years with a control systems integrator company, initially working as a Control Systems Design Engineer before moving into a Technical Sales role and finally becoming the company’s Sales Director.

Nigel joined the SCX Group in October 2012 heading up SCX Special Projects’ in-house Control Systems Department, in order to develop the company’s involvement in the design and implementation of complex automated control systems. His wide range of experience covers Technical, Sales and Managerial roles across all aspects of control system design works for all manner of moving structures, from automated process plant, to moving bridges, flood defence systems, theme park ride attractions, retractable roofs and overhead cranes.
